Chhindwara, India

FIVE PERSONS have died after being bitten by stray dogs in the last one month and at least 40 to 50 people with dog bites are running from pillar-to-post for treatment in Chhindwara district.

The deceased included Pankaj (5), Pawan (7) and Chaitlal of Bhandarkund village and Shakkar Shah (45) and Sunita of Jam village.

In these villages and nearby areas, 40 to 50 persons with dog bites have had to do without proper treatment due to the shortage of anti-rabies injections in the District Hospital. They are making use of traditional methods to cure themselves.

While admitting the shortage of anti-rabies injections at the hospital, the Chief Medical Officer said that the government has stopped the supply of this injection.
